Discarded Crate to Piano Bench

At work, one of my new co-workers was getting rid of some things that the old employee left behind.

Among these things was this amazing looking military crate.

When I noticed she wanted to get rid of it, I immediately asked her if I could take it. She said yes, and the plans started forming in my head of where I could use this.

Then I knew the perfect place....

The piano bench.

So good by chair, hello sweet piano bench.

This was a simple project. I put felt feet on the bottom of the bench (got to protect those floors), bought hinges for $4, used some left over plywood, foam and batting, muslin - I stapled it and I was done!

I think it is perfect. On top of looking amazing - it has storage, now I have a place to put all those piano books - and maybe my knitting.

What a great one hour project!

I am in am organizing frenzy around here as I try to make room for a baby. More organizing to come!!

Creating In The Face of Fear

You guys, by now, know that I love creating things. I can't tell you how many times I have said - "I need to create something every day" (whether it be sewing, cooking, card making, or journaling). Something tangible of my thoughts, my ideas.. of me, out here for the world (or at least my little world). 

While on Vacation last week, I ran across this amazing post. It was entitled Why Everybody Needs to Make Art Everyday. I love that blog (A Holy Experience), and I follow it almost every day. First off, the music is relaxing and bring peace to my soul. And her words, which flow effortlessly and like I am there with her - bring me to my knees. They help me see Jesus in the simple and the everyday. If you feel stressed out, overwhelmed, and lonely - her words will remind you of Someone greater who never leaves.

What good things to keep in mind as I strive to create! Number 4 & 5 are hard for me - since the one thing I fear the most is failure.

Creating in the face of fear, it’s like that, a bit like flying right into freedom.
